Medical Students/Registrars

Training Practice

The surgery is delighted to inform you that we have been approved as a training practice.  This means we will be joined by a qualified doctor (a registrar) who is training to become a GP.  This doctor is gaining experience in general practice having previously spent time in hospitals.

Medical Students

Medical students (usually from Keele University) will also join us for one to three months at a time.  They are gaining experience of general practice and may sit in on consultations or ask to spend time with you prior to seeing your GP.  We would be most grateful if you would agree to see a medical student.  The student will ask the questions usually asked by the GP and may also examine you if it is required.  This will be very similar to a ‘normal’ GP consultation except that the GP may not be present when you talk to the student but will see you straight after.  The GP will be supervising the student, have overall responsibility for your consultation and will be responsible for all decisions about your care as usual.

Please also note that:

  • You can refuse to see the student
  • You can ask the student to stop at any time
  • You can leave the consultation at any time
  • You can ask for the GP to take over at any time

Rest assured that the care you receive from the practice will not be affected in any way by you choosing one of these options.

Thank you for helping us.  If you have any questions, please ask the receptionist or your doctor.
